Americo Makk (1927-2015) enjoyed studying and painting native Americans from years gone by. In the 1950's, he and his wife Eva Makk were commissioned by the Brazilian government to study native tribes in the Amazon. Upon their move to the Unied States, Americo was intrigued by the natives of the land. In this scene, Cold Winter, he depicts a settlement with teepees. It's chilly, but the soft glow coming from the teepees indicate warmth and contentment. The snowcapped mountains and valley must have been a challenge in the day, but the occupants of the settlement were very skilled to brave the winter.
